Hot Water Bottle Covers!

I want to start expanding my 'homewares' range so this week I decided to try making hot water bottle covers!
I created two gorgeous covers from vintage bright floral fabrics.
I used a heavy weight fusible interlining on the back of the fabrics to give a nice weight and depth to the fabric, this also helps protect the user from the heat of the hot water bottle when first poured!

Using Iron on Vinyl

I really love the look of oilcloth fabrics and products however this is an expensive and specialist process! I began looking for possible ways of achieving a glossy, waterproof effect on my fabrics that I could do at home. I discovered 'iron on vinyl' and it literally does what it says on the tin!
Simply cut your vinyl to your desired size, peel off the backing paper, pop it on the fabric, then use the backing paper as a barrier between the vinyl and the iron and simply iron it on! Finally turn the fabric over and give it a quick iron on the other side too... and voila! shiny, waterproof fabric!
I made a little hanging pouch with my vinyl covered fabric pictured below!

This weekend I will have a stall in Wimbledon on both Saturday and Sunday (which is the Winter Wonderland night!) I am very excited and have been making cushions, bunting, lavender bags and more out of brightly coloured, retro patterned and vintage fabrics, so that hopefully my stall is bursting with colour and lots of lovely Christmas presents and stocking fillers!

Lampshade!

I had a go at making my own fabric lampshade using a piece of my digitally printed fabric.
I really love the look of the finished lampshade and it was fairly simple to make! ... Definitely something I will be making again!

Cushions finished!

I finished the cushion in the previous post and made a second using the rest of my digitally printed patterned samples! I used an invisible zip to close the second cushion and LOVE how this looks!

I am really impressed with the digitally printed fabric and have already ordered a few more of my patterns to be printed! I love the clean cut, professional finish digitally printing gives, yet still allows my patterns and colours to pop!

Quirky patchwork cushion in the making!

A while ago I had some of my patterns digitally printed on to fabric via spoonflower.com. Ive not really been sure how to use the samples sent to me as they were quite a small size, however today Ive started making a patchwork cushion with 4 of my samples!
Ive gone for a simple patchwork style and will include a classic envelope closure when I find some suitable fabric to back the cushion with!
Here is the cushion so far ....

Pinterest love!!

I've been on Pinterest for over a year now and still find it completely inspirational and unbelievably practical and useful! ... which is saying a lot for a still fairly new website! The great thing about Pinterest is that it allows you to have a virtual mood board of hundreds... probably thousands of images all organised in to multiple collections and in the comfort of your desktop.
Another practical aspect of Pinterest is that it eliminates the need to keep bookmarking web pages, as well as 'downloading' or 'saving' images! It really is such a user friendly and easy site to use that I would recommend it to anyone... especially those who like hoarding inspirational ideas!
As well as uploading, saving or 'Pinning' your own images to your pinterest moodboards there is also a huge community of 'pinners' which you are able to follow and get even more ideas from as you are then able to 'repin' their pins!
All pins are 'public' on Pinterest so if you 'pin' a picture everyone who follows you or is on Pinterest maybe able to see your 'pin', however Pinterest has recently added a section called 'Secret Boards' where you can pin whatever you like in complete privacy!

Once you are signed up to Pinterest you are able to drag this little bookmark to your toolbar (with the rest of your bookmarks) this then allows you to simply click the button when you're on a picture that you want to 'Pin' and it does all the hard work for you and saves it to where you want! (shown using a search for cushions below!)

Once you have a few boards set up I'm sure you'll find it hard to resist adding pins from thousands of different websites, blogs and shops!
Pinterest is particularly useful for projects, whether in the form of a college, uni or work project or simply a home re-decoration project, Pinterest allows you to group ideas together, accompanied with a link to the relevant website to give a clear and organised visual reference!

...Here's a few of my boards and pins!

... Happy Pinning!!

Etsy Shop!

As I mentioned in my previous post I havnt been able to make alot over the last few months however there are still lots of bright, bold and handmade pieces available on my Etsy shop....

A quick cross stitch!

I've been unable to make anything properly over the last few months due to moving house/ having an extension, so I've been thinking of different things that I can do that don't require too much room, many fabrics or a sewing machine! I came up with cross stitches!.... Here's the first of many hopefully!! (I haven't done one in years and annoyingly accidentally dropped a line of stitches with out realising half way through the 'M'! not too bad for a first attempt though!
